Level the Playing field for Black Youth
As the world becomes increasingly globalized and technology-driven, the need for financial literacy among young people has never been greater. For Black youth, access to financial education and career skills is especially important as they often face a more limited set of opportunities than their white counterparts. Programs like the Young Investors Group (YIG) are working to level the playing field by providing Black youth with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the financial industry.
Young Investors Group's Youth Internship Program
The Young Investors Group is a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing financial education and career skills to Black youth. Through YIG, young people have the opportunity to learn about investing, budgeting, and other financial concepts in a supportive and inclusive environment. The organization also offers internships and mentoring opportunities to help young people gain valuable experience and build connections.
Young Investors Group's Why!
One of the key goals of YIG is to increase the number of Black people working in the finance industry. According to a 2018 report by the Urban Institute, Black people are underrepresented in the industry, making up just 4 percent of employees at investment banks and 2 percent of employees at asset management firms. YIG is working to change this by providing Black youth with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue careers in finance and other related fields. In addition to helping young people build financial skills, YIG also works to promote financial literacy and education in the broader Black community. The organization hosts workshops and events that are open to all members of the community, and they work with schools and other organizations to provide financial education to young people and their families.
